At Maritimes Y Service Clubs, we are committed to uplifting our communities through a variety of impactful projects. From local initiatives to supporting national non-profits, our goal is to create positive change and enhance the lives of those around us.
We actively support the Fredericton Community Kitchen, providing meals and assistance to those in need. Our volunteers contribute their time and skills to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
Collaborating with the Fredericton Food Bank, we help in collecting, organizing, and distributing food to families and individuals facing food insecurity, ensuring that our community members have access to nutritious meals.
Participating in the annual Run for the Cure, our members raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. We believe in the power of community to bring about change in the fight against cancer.
In partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, we organize and support blood donor clinics. Each donation can save up to three lives, making this initiative a cornerstone of our community health efforts.
Our volunteers dedicate their time to Meals on Wheels, delivering hot meals to seniors and individuals unable to prepare food for themselves, providing not just nourishment but also a friendly visit.
Supporting the Stan Cassidy Centre, we contribute to rehabilitation services and facilities, helping individuals regain their independence and improve their quality of life.
We provide scholarships and educational support to local students, recognizing academic achievement and supporting the next generation in their pursuit of higher education.
In addition to these projects, we are involved in numerous other initiatives like supporting the Salvation Army, Bridges of Canada, and various human crisis situations. We also dedicate countless volunteer hours to community service, making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
About 90% of local club support stays in the local community – either through support to the local YMCA or through direct community support (most often a combination of the two). Annually, such support is estimated at close to US$ 4 million – plus numerous hours of volunteer service work. But local clubs also support international programs.
Support training of YMCA Staff persons. Named in honour of our founder, Judge Paul William Alexander.
Every year, local clubs support training of YMCA Secretaries with about US$ 120,000. About US$ 12,000 (10% of the local support) is sent to the International Headquarters and is used to support leadership training programs mainly in Africa, Latin America and India, but in recent years also in Eastern/Central Europe.
Allow travel of members to visit members in other countries. Every year, about US$ 200,000 is contributed through the sale of used stamps (about 15%) and from cash contributions (about 85%).
This program helps to increase understanding of different cultures – both for those travelling (“BF Delegates”) and for those hosting them.
support programs that help reduce carbon emissions. International Brother Clubs to enhance international understanding. Links between Y’s Men’s Clubs in different countries through the exchange of emails, letters, bulletins, photos, CDs, DVDs, etc – and visits whenever possible.
the global framework for coordinated action against malaria. Y’s Men International are working in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to deliver funds for the purchase of long-lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets for distribution in high-burden areas.
Money is raised through Y’s Men “skipping” a meal or two and paying what the meal would have cost into the TOF program. The funds contributed are used to support YMCA projects all over the world. The program started about 20 years ago and shows a dramatic increase in contributions – and hence support to YMCAs.
